Marine Thrift Shop

OAARS volunteers have the opportunity to volunteer at the Marine Thrift Shop on behalf of OAARS.  This is an easy and important way that OAARS receives funding, and it’s a great way to give back to the community.  The Marine Thrift Shop is located in Bldg 5691 on Camp Foster, and when you volunteer to work at the Thrift Shop on behalf of OAARS, the Thrift Shop logs in the number of hours that you worked for OAARS.  Every quarter, the Thrift Shop makes a grant to OAARS based on the total number of hours worked by volunteers.  Here are some additional reasons to volunteer at the Marine Thrift Shop:

The people – the manager Fay is really inviting.  So are the other regular volunteers and employees.
The good karma – not only are you helping OAARS, you are helping the Thrift Shop, which in turn provides large donations to many other private organizations here on island.
The flexibility – some weeks you can stay late, and some weeks you may be busy and can’t make it there.  They understand, and are grateful for whatever time you’re able to give.
The stuff – you also get first dibs on stuff coming in the door, and it’s impossible not to shop a bit while you’re working at the store.

If you’re interested in volunteering at the Thrift Shop, the first step would be to stop by and introduce yourself to the managers.  There’s an “application” to fill out, which really just lists your availability and contact info.  There is no pay for the position – you simply sign in under OAARS in their volunteer log.  They’ve been very generous with OAARS.
